firewall, try Smoothwall firewall system. It's based on Linux and is very easy for moderately experienced computer users. I currently have one operating as my H/W firewall/router. It supports a green (internal), orange (DMZ) and red (internet) networks. It allows for pinholes between the orange and green. It has basic port forwarding. You manage it from a web page. It also has a web proxy, DHCP (client [red] and server [green]), intrusion detection (SNORT) and a basic VPN solution. For a GNU licenced system, it's pretty powerful. It has ads for the 'commercial' version, but you only have to look at them when you're managing the machine from the web page.

Well, well. This poor PS/1 actually works! How 'bout that?
