but you didn't. There's a separation between my fear of/being scared of/worrying about a specific person versus my opinions of what groups of people are capable of. When I said that people like you frighten me--I didn't mean out of a concern for my own personal safety.
There is a theory in communication called the groupthink theory. It says that given enough time, it is possible for a large group of people who may hold opposing viewpoints to begin to think the same things--no matter what their personal convictions are. It's when these personal convictions break down that, in some cases, bad things tend to happen. I tend to shorten that whole idea down to one particular message--I owe it to Despair.com--it is my personal mantra:
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.
The bottom line is that I have no faith in humanity, and I think that, with the exception of the upper echelon of the gene pool, most people are willing to just follow whoever they think is the smoothest talking or most charasmatic person they happen to come across. That said, when I read your initial post, I lumped you (perhaps incorrectly) into that group (based on the single source idea).
