Or color, or anything else that qualifies as a perception. The color red has no real existence outside of our own perception. For those who are blind from birth there is no such thing as the color red. The whole idea of colors is in fact absurd to them. (There are a few really fascinating cases where individuals have had sight 'restored' to them later in life. They have a LOT of problems dealing with things that most of us can't imagine finding difficult.) Just because someone does not perceive a particular thing does not mean that it is not real to someone who does. Attempting to disprove the existence of something that one cannot sense yourself is akin to the blind man trying to convince a sighted person that there is no color. The perception might very well be real even if one cannot see any direct reason for it.
