Unfortunately psychology disagrees with you on age. The majority of human beings do not reach full physical, emotional and mental maturity by age 16. For the majority of humans all three maturity levels aren't reached until somewhere between the ages of 17 and 19. To properly protect society and make sure that the majority of the population is mature and capable the age would have to be set somewhere in that range. I personally feel that 19 should be the age of majority. Unfortunately it is impractical to expect teenagers to obstain from sex, drugs and driving until then. There should be acceptable exceptions allowed. Like 16 year olds can exercise those rights under parental supervision. 18 year olds can exercise them so long as they have a high school diploma. These are capritious and arbitrary, I admit, but then any criteria we set will also be capritious and arbitrary.
