| The Equation |

| I think the reason it strayed is because it all boils around one reely big equation.
Authority = Responsibility
or
Right = Responsibility
The authority is always equal to the responsibility. It may not always be in one person on each action, but it is always there. You (figure of speech) may have the authority to get really drunk and drive down the wrong side of the freeway at 100mph, but the police where you live have taken the responsibility to stop you for the protection of others. If they don't make it in time, The insurance companies are charging you for them to take up the responsiblity to pay for the mess you may make. If you kill someone the lawyers are charging you for the responsibility of keeping your (still a figure of speech) sorry tail out of jail. Meanwhile we are paying taxes to pay people to put you there.
If you take the responsibility yourself then it makes the equation much simpler, and you know how much some people hate math. (-;
The question is do most underagers have that innate sense of responsibility. The great mass of citizens in this country say no. Is it more just to allow young, responsible people from doing what they want for fun or to protect others by stopping irresponsible children from causing problems? |
