32 feet/second squared and 9.8 meters/second squared are the standard terms used for the acceleration due to gravity at sea level disregarding air resistance Other restrictions apply. Your gravity may vary.. These don't apply to the yo-yo problem though, as part of the acceleration is converted into rotation as the yo-yo unwinds, there is friction between the yo-yo and the string, and given a drop of 2000 feet, air resistance is going to be a significant factor as well.

As we don't know the actual acceleration, or the final velocity, Galileo's half speed rule doesn't do us any good either. But it is cool.
