So long as the law applies to all citizen equally, then the society is still equal.

What you seem to fail to grasp in these laws is that the goverment is not removing a right but granting a priviledge. A priviledge and even some rights can be granted at any time. You cannot be a member of congress, the senate or even preseident until obtaining a certain age. Those laws are part of the US Constitution. Age based descrimination is common in law, good luck in changing it.
