Digital Video Camera's... info? by MyKE2002-08-26 08:22:10
The PCI tuner card is probably a good idea, by pecosdave2002-08-26 08:33:02
but we probably can't do that. by MyKE2002-08-26 08:51:16
      Why a tuner/capture? by YakkoWarner 2002-08-26 09:09:39
Lart me if I'm wrong, but don't a lot of DV cameras have a firewire connection for transferring the digital stream? Seems to me that you could just plug the camera into the laptop (some models, Sony Vaios especially, have a type of mini-firewire port; some have actual firewire ports on-board; and there's always the PCMCIA firewire adapter option) and use your favorite video compressor (I like Windows Media Encoder, actually, because it offers the best compression/quality of anything I've tried in my budget -- free; plus I can reasonably assume my non-computer-savvy family can view it). The worst that can happen is it may take a little longer to process on a laptop vs. a desktop, but since it's all digital, you won't have any frame loss...
