Some places are a lot more fertile/productive than others.
However much you try you will not be able to graze cattle on 45 degree incline granite.
And I live in one of the most fertile places on the planet, and still most of the food and goods I consume are imported.
My country is no longer self sufficent as to that respect, and that does in fact mean that we are overpopulated.
