can't really play into it. That would suggest that peoples of lower income are second-class citizens. Could you imagine if the state required you to prove financial security before allowing you (or your partner as the case may be) to carry a child to term? It leads to all types of Orwellian scenarios.

The other standard you present is understanding of consequences. The best way to determine this is with standardized tests, but then some individuals would never gain full rights, and again some citizens would end up in as second-class members of scoiety through no fault of their own.

I believe all innocent people should have the right to autonomy, no matter what their intelligence, financial status, or ability to appreciate the results of their consequences. That's what being human is all about.
