Wishful thinking... by NOLAWitch 2002-08-06 11:25:32
Yeah, I've heard the case against wishful thinking: it's a waste of time; you accomplish nothing; get outside and get some fresh air!

It seems to me that most of the progress that has taken place over the years has started with wishful thinking. Orville and Wilbur wished they could fly. President Kennedy wished we could go to the moon. Marconi wished he could send messages without a wire. Susan B. Anthony wished she could vote. Steven Jobs wished he had a computer for his home use.

What we have lost over the past two decades is the will to get out there and do anything about our wishes, convictions or politics. The Baby Boomers are just pathetic, made even moreso because they should know better. The generation who changed the world now only changes the oil in their SUVs every 3,000 miles. Disgraceful! Most of their horrid children are grown, they could now afford to get off their butts and get involved in politics and public opinion again. But NOOOOOO! They've grown fat and lazy and complacent. If it doesn't directly impact them, they couldn't care less. Ironic when you think back to when they couldn't care more passionately about their protests and were willing to sacrifice so much for the greater good of humanity.

*wistful sigh and slinks off back to work*
