The implication is that he has no consideration for his child's welfare - he is only concerned with the legal issue. This is not true, in my opinion.

I _agree_ that his daughter is suffering as a result of his action where she would not have suffered noticeably without it.

But I don't automatically agree that he realizes that, too.

It's entirely possible that he believes he is serving her greater good by exposing her to the conflict rather than letting her mother brainwash her unopposed.

And since when have people consulted with the children they are "protecting" when acting to change those protections?
