Chemestry Question by Glytch782002-08-06 09:54:41
O2 is the stable diatomic molecule of oxygen by tomo 2002-08-06 10:02:24
Oxygen is almost never seen in it's monatomic form as it is too reactive and will tend to steal almost any atom from another molecule.

In air, oxygen is usually present as a pair of atoms bonded covalently to each other (sharing some electrons - I forget how many).

It can also be found as O3 - Ozone, but this is not very stable and also reasonably poisonous. It has a distinctive smell - it's generated around lightening and electrical discharges, so you've probably encountered it before.
