Sorry - I really don't even want a response to this part, as the other discussion is still the one I wanted to have, but this really irks me, so I need to type it.

Even in what I did say, which was only a brief second paragraph, I in no way defended corporal punishment in schools. Any more than I'm defending keeping the phrase in the pledge. I've been saying all along I think it should go. Saying the parent is wrong has nothing to do with saying the system is right.
