to accept the word of someone who is clearly intervening for their own child's physical welfare, first of all, than someone who appears to be pursuing a largely political agenda through the convenience of their child. As has been mentioned in other threads of this discussion, this child is learning religion at home, not in 5 seconds of the first 10 minutes of her school day. This actually goes for most if not all children. A public school has no place "teaching" religion, but (even though I agree that the phrase shouldn't be there) to say that "under God" is shaping our children's religious beliefs is patently absurd. It will have ZERO effect compared to what they learn at home and in their social circles.
Secondly, even though I certainly see your point - if you dragged your young child that you didn't have custody over into a legal mess over corporal punishment (which in your example she wasn't a "victim" of anyway) when both she and her mother wished otherwise, yeah, I'd have to say you were wrong. |
