The relationship between the two parents definitely has bearing. Since they are in conflict, understanding the relationship between them can help someone understand what motivations each has for their actions. While definitely relevant, examining their relationship might be an overly intrusive invasion of the parents' privacy. Personally, I would say that a statement regarding their marital state was not very intrusive, since I feel marital state is designed to be a public statement, but I can understand that some might feel it intrusive. Of course, the media doesn't tend to worry much about intruding on people's privacy. That said, the information is definitely relevant.
Regarding your dislike for Fox News, I also disagree. While I might not always agree with their commentary, they do tend to present an opposing view to that accepted by many other news sources. I make a point on many issues to check at least 3-5 different sources, with as many different ideological bases as I can. I use online sources that are extreme right and left, as well as more moderate sources. If the sources are in disagreement regarding the facts, I look deeper. I think too many people want their news spoon fed to them, and do not accept that ALL news sources have an agenda. Only when that agenda is recognized, and the information compared with other sources can we hope to determine what actually is happening.
