Actually, the purpose of public schools in the United States is not education in the way of book knowledge, but to teach citizenship. Yup, public schools are there to make all the little kiddies good members of society. Brainwashing houses, nothing more. This whole 'education' thing got turned in a different direction, and now people are saying that what was once the main purpose of schools in the first place, now no longer belongs there.
