"Under God" Revisited by GeekPrincess2006-11-19 12:55:59
This just gets stranger & stranger by fore_deck 2002-08-06 03:20:13
The whole idea of the Pledge seems alien to me, what is the point of small children (As young as 5 AFAIK?) recigting the pledge when they don't even know the meaning of the words?

Perhaps it's just my sceptical nature, but I think this comes dangerously close to political indoctrination. No-one EVER should be made to state or swear something they don't understand (This applies to religion as well BTW).

If America & the American way of life is as great as we are led to believe then it should be self-evident & there should be no need to support it by indoctrinating children....

(BTW - A better exploration of this can be found in The Children's Story by James Clavell. Unfortunately I can't find a website with the quote I want, so I'm not going to provide a link.)
