Do you have to be a Rabid Linux Fan by Naruki 2002-07-24 10:13:42
(or at least a Rabid MS Hater) to comment here?

One thing that seems to have been (deliberately?) ignored is that this information would not strictly go to Microsoft.

Most of the respondents so far are too hyped up to answer this correctly, but have any of the rest of you determined what that article is really saying? Correct me if I'm wrong (and I could easily be), but it seems that:

1) any application made would be able to take advantage of the Fritz chip to maintain secret communication with Home Base (which is only MS _if_ it's a MS application)

2) any application may ALSO choose to ignore this whole thing

3) if MS tried to refuse to let other apps run on that system, they would instantly be shut down by the government

4) MS is just a major proponent here - you wouldn't have to ask them if you could develop software for the new platforms

5) most of you are too eager to blame MS, and seem to be making groundless "monopolistic practices" claims

But that's how I see it based on a quick overview. Corrections are encouraged.
