Dirty, smelly, awkward job of the day... by fore_deck 2002-07-24 07:33:26
Replacing the Alternator on my Pride & Joy (MGB).

I did this only 18 months ago & the lousy recon unit I got then has gone phut! So I got a shiny new one instead...

Needed to spray the old all over with WD-40 to get it off and the various bits I needed to re-use seperated from it...

Then we have to fit the new one, guess what? The old retaining bolts don't fit! Grrr. So I have to drill out the securing holes to get the bolts through.

Then I can fit it, tension the belt by holding the alternator up as high as possible with both hands and using a foot to work the ratchet handle...

Ah, now it's done & we've got 14 volts charging the battery again. What's that loose wire..................?
