It happens all the time....

Enya actually owns just the copyright to the song (the sheet music)

She created the recording under contract to a record company, probably as a "work for hire", so they own the copyright to the recording (Those exact sounds made by those particular musicians at that particular time). Enya (as composer) would be paid a small amount from the record comapny for use of her song in their recording. Enya (as musician) would be paid (essetially) a flat fee for her part in creating the recording.

The record company then licensed the recording for use in TV productions, and CNN used it. So, CNN owns the copyright to that particular newscast (that reporter saying those words with those images and that specific background music). They paid a fee to the record company for use of their recording, and the RC passed a small cut on to Enya for use of her song.
