i worked at mcdonald's in HS and served 75 million gallons of coffee--roughly. MANY times i tried to be smooth and get coffee straight out of the coffeemaker while it was still brewing and got fresh coffee on my hand. i don't care what they say about 3rd degree burns, i never even had a blister and coffee doesn't get hotter than when its coming out boiling. sure, it hurt--no way i was gonna put it in my crotch--but i never had severe burns or even had to tell my manager. :P its bunk and she was a stupid old woman. the only problem i can see is that perhaps they filled it too full.
