punitive damages should not go to the victim. It would be better to give them to appropriate non-profit charities (perhaps fund some burn care of geriatric care research in this case). This would take the "get rich quick" aspect out of lawsuits, hopefully reducing the number of frivolous cases brought into court. Of course, I also think lawyers should be thrown into jail on contempt of court charges for even bringing cases like those in the LOTD into court.
