REALLY tight that first few years, or else have a job outside of getting the PFD. Which again takes us to teh original mention: The PFD is beans compared to what you need to live in Alaska. Sure, it's nice to have. It helps! But really and truely, it's not a whole hell of a lot and it's NOT going to support your family :P If you think 11,000$ is going to support 5 people, yo've obviously not gotten married and had 3 kids. Nor have you grown acustom to paying 1.89$/lb for lettuce when it's on sale, and a dollar a pound for tomatoe :P
