Why do smoke detector batteries go dead at 4am? by YakkoWarner 2002-07-23 09:55:41
I was awakened this morning at 4 by a shrill chirp, repeating about once every minute. This is the second smoke detector battery to go dead in my house since I moved in, and the last one was also in the middle of the night.

Those blasted chirps are impossible to ignore. Granted, that's probably the idea, but why does it *always* happen in the middle of the night?!

What made things worse, about an hour later as I was finally starting to fall back to sleep, my 3-month-old wakes up. AARRRGGGHHH!!!
