Career of least resistence by perldude2002-07-22 09:28:58
well... opposite here by rottweiler 2003-05-13 08:34:45
Definitely least resistance, but opposite reason

basically I'm good at just about anything I put my mind to but I have a really bad long term attention span. My career/interest/ability scores were all identical and high. I started out in Chemical Engineering which was great fun but had a major drawback: 8am classes. Given my party schedule, I had a very rough time getting to class and managed to almost flunk out my first year.

Since I was on a 4 year military scholarship not tied to a technical field, I changed my major to British Lit because I am an exceptional BS'er. This allowed me to party hard and graduate cum laude despite failing my freshman year. I picked up some computer classes for fun electives.

I needed a Masters to get promoted in the military so I chose Business because the classes were at good times and it seemed like they were testing you on common sense. So I have an MBA magna cum laude (I wasn't partying). I picked up web design because the art of it attracted me... Once you master oil/acrylic/penNink/pencil techniques it gets old. I have one extremely good example of each technique. I keep the last one before I switch to the next technique.

I got my MCSE because I like computers and vaguely felt I should learn more hardware and network *stuff* and the tests were easy (as long as you remember it's MS, not real world). It worked as a good resume line and helped my overall grasp of the web. Don't ask me to be a systems engineer ... that's incredibly boring stuff!

I started web design and architecture because it's interesting to me and changes frequently enough to keep my interest. But in my current job, I do "stuff" ... "new stuff" ... that the app dev teams can't handle or isn't proven yet or needs RAD while doing OJT... or that someone else screwed up so royally they need major untangling and emergency care. I have a short attention span after skill mastery. I've been in this job for almost 3 years and I can feel the walls closing in and insane boredom bubbling up. Ok... the insane boredom started about 2 years ago but just enough new *stuff* trickles in to keep me from gnawing off my leg ... and UF helps.

I neeeed CHANGE ... it has to be NEW and different and *not* boring.
