| heck - I wrote half my papers for my last grad class on the iBook using "vi" the next incarnation will be more in the direction of development, its coming with GCC on it as well. not sure if i'll upgrade to it if thats the only added unix tool, other wise i might seriously consider it. i cut my teeth on MS/DOS and Apple/DOS so i'm quite comfortable with CLI, and I'll admit that the GUI on OS X is a lot of eyecandy, but you can shut a lot of it off (which I've done). my personal opinion on OS's is that you should use A) what you are comfortable with (and I'm quite comfortable with several OSs) and B) use whichever OS does the job best (if the best canidate is Windows, use that; if its Mac, use that; if its *nix use that -- basically don't limit your options). just my 2 pence on the matter :) |
