edlin and chkdsk are just programs	by nix	2002-07-22 13:40:14
Not really parts of the system. Now, the system IS still based (somewhat) on DOS, which was a cheap clone of CPM. So your conclusion is correct (and you could even go farther), but for the wrong reasons. edlin is useless, and always was, buy chkdsk is still kinda useful - it's the easiest way to find out how many bad sectors you have on your disk, for instance. (And I still don't know how to do that in linux...)
