Looking for suggestions by whytwolf2002-07-22 07:01:08

my situation by whytwolf 2002-07-22 10:59:41
I live in the country where cable is not an option. Technically I shouldn't even be able to get DSL, but SBC allowed me to get it once before changing the distance limitations. This means that they have to let me have it again since the line already had it (that whole grandfather clause thing). The problem is they are hem-hawing around and not getting it turned back on. The last thing I heard from them was that the circuit had to go through a remote terminal which they don't own. The owners of the terminal have given them permission to use it, but say that the terminal doesn't exist yet and won't exist for another two years (so how did I have DSL before??) :/. This wouldn't even be an issue if my ISP hadn't screwed up the billing to begin with and turned the circuit off, but sometimes **** happens. My ISP has offered to let me get wireless service for the same cost as DSL, but I can't get line of site of their antenna without a 100 ft tower (there's a 40 ft ridge with trees between my house and their antenna). I was considering the satellite route, but if it's not worth the expense (more and more it sounds like it isn't) I will just have to wait for SBC to get off their ***es and turn my DSL circuit back on.

I also looked into Sprint's wireless broadband, but they aren't offering it anymore (at least not to new customers).

I am certainly open to any other suggestions. If anyone has an 80 - 100 ft tower they'd like to donate...
