I just possbily might be combining those two endeavors myself. A friend of mine who is a reporter for a local paper suggested that I write a every-other-weekly column on high-tech issues in the area. After some thought I liked the idea and wrote up a list of story ideas, which my friend has used to pitch to his boss. We'll see what the outcome is (he says a week of silence isn't a bad sign). The stories would range from brain-candy to pressing tech news. The target audience would be people with an interest in technology but not necessarily expertise in the specific topic for each week. I'd work to educate them on the technology being discussed and show how it's relevent in our geographic area. My favorite story line so far: John and Karen were programmers at Virginia Tech during the punch card era of the 1970s. Theirs is a story of how a couple of young programmers turned in their punch cards and got back love.
