Hell was an actual physical place in the old days of Jesus. It was actually a place where the cities trash was dumped and burned. Hence the saying, "Hot as Hell". It was also smelly, rotten and dank. It was pretty much the worst place imaginable for these people of that era. So they made the equation of "Bad" people go to a place like that... ewwwww.. right?? But it has evolved to be a form of fear used to scare people to believe and act as "good Christians". Many Christians don't believe that there is an actual "Hell" per say, just that you will get what you have always gotten. You have chosen out of free will to live life without God so you will live the after-life without him/her/it as well.
