To amplify your discussion of differences in the notion of salvation: IIRC, Luther proposed that the believing soul is still corrupt in the sight of God, but his faith acts like a cloak that makes God overlook one's sins and let one into Heaven anyway.
However, this doesn't quite jive with Rv 21:27: "But nothing unclean shall enter it [i.e., Heaven]...." We are called to a continual transformation in grace, becoming more and more like Jesus Christ. Some of us don't get all the way there on Earth; hence Purgatory, where we complete the process. |
