Looking for suggestions by whytwolf 2002-07-22 07:01:08
Well, it's been almost two months now and I'm still in low-bandiwdth hell at home (no DSL). I am considering going to a two-way satellite system like Direcway, but they don't support *nix yet. Does anyone know of a two-way satellite provider who does support *nix? I would also like to know if anyone has any experience with satellite Internet service and what they think of it (good, bad, or otherwise). The sales people are completely useless; when I ask about the max upload/download speeds to expect all they can (will) tell me is, "it's comparable to cable and DSL" but no actual speeds. Grrrrr... If I'm gonna shell out $90+ dollars a month (I want a static IP) I'd like to know what I'm paying for.

I have seen a couple of companies offering Direcway routers which use Linux, so I know it's possible. I would just like to know how they are doing it so I can setup my own router.
