Unfortunately you made the common mistake of thinking that you own it because you paid for it. Microsoft is the owner of Windows and all of their other products. They only allow you to use it in exchange for your money. (Read the license) However, unless I misunderstood the GPL license everyone includig Microsoft owns Linux and othe open source products.
