| If presume that your boss isn't dumb enough to run a file server on win9x. Lets assume that the box runs win2k, then it should be quite stable (i.e. not that unstable :-). If it crashes every Sunday morning, you should try hooking up a webcam to see if the cleaning lady doesn't remove the server's power cord to hookup her vacuum cleaner :-). You could also try a new box, the problem sounds more like hardware then software to me.
of course it is always a very good idea to install Linux or BSD on as many servers possible, because it is so much more manageable and understandable than windows.
