| As I remember it, the back story with Helen went something like this:
Helen was the immortal daughter of Leda by Zeus, and as such was much desired by all the princes of Greece. Odysseus was among her suitors, but, seeing that trouble would arise, took Leda's husband Tyndareus aside and proposed the following plan: Tyndareus would make all the suitors swear to 1) respect Helen's choice of husband and 2) fight to get her back were she ever abducted, and THEN let Helen pick. Tyndareus took this advice, and Helen chose Menelaus of Sparta.
Hence, when Paris stole Helen away (with a little help from Aphrodite and Eros), the Greek chieftains all went and beat up on Troy. |
