is use two pipes at the octave and the twelfth (16' and 10 2/3', in this case). The beats they produce are at the fundamental tone you seek, and when combined with a real stop at the octave (as it always would be), the ear can't tell that it's being fooled.

I said "theoretically" because I've never heard of u-joints actually being used on a real organ.

I'll let it count, since I'm giving the answer here, and we'll need to roll over in a few minutes anyway.
