A large majority of people (at least in the US) who are raised in an 'ism never even know what the "doctrines" are behind the religion that they espouse. To many, religion is nothing more than a neighborhood social club that they belong to so that they won't be stimatized in the community. I love to discuss (I don't care to call it debate, as that suggests a winner and loser) religion with someone who is really informed and cares about their belief structures.
