We're discussing an issue of constitutionality, which is of course perfectly legitimate and worth discussing.

But having "under God" in the pledge - or NOT having it in the pledge - is not determining how millions of little children feel about their faith.

There is nothing a teacher in front of a class leading a pledge does that could influence a child's development towards or away from a faith even NEARLY as much as the influence they need to be getting at home, from their parents. Little Miss Banning will grow up to be Christian or Hindu or Athiest or what have you (and I'm not supporting or bashing any of those choices) because of what she learned at home and in her social circles, not because of the wording of the pledge.

Let's just hope they're even succeeding at teaching them math and basic English, and leave the "welfare of the little children" part of this issue at that.
