Lessons in dealing with things out of your control, that's a lovely indoctrination method. "It's out of your control, surrender to authority figures." HIV isn't entirely out of your control, however. HIV positive newborns must have an HIV positive parent. Who got it either by a blood transfer with an HIV positive person, or by having sex.
Will sexual abstinence, and monogamy be a part of the lesson material in dealing with HIV? Will chldren be taught that people contract the disease by acting irresponsibly and immaturely? Or will the show suggest to children that HIV is a monster that leaps out of a closet and bites you... or that some people are just born HIV positive, the way others are born a certain race or sex, or diabetic?
Leave such education to the children's parents. Instead of trying to indoctrinate children that it's okay to have a lethal social disease (and thereby interact with, and possibly exchange bodily fluids with victims of the disease,) educate the parents on adult-oriented programs, and leave the kids to learning how to spell the letter "H".
Ack! I apologise! I'm soo sorry! I forgot that such programming might involve telling grownups to act like grownups and not hump everything with compatible body parts. Heresy!
Funny, I was never aware of any diabetic characters on the show. Why is that? It's a disease people have to live with and regulate. It's a disease people are sometimes born with and have no control over. Of course, such a character couldn't give a lecture on *political correctness*.
Go ahead, keep telling me I'm paranoid. But the indoctrination keeps on going. Even when the material is damaging society.
