We are confessing that there is a higher power.. how is it being redundant? Often ideas that are "self-evident" must be fleshed out and stated. I threw in "god bless America" as just an example that we don't exclude other nations by stating ours is under god.

The government has never stayed neutral in regard to the idea of a creator, or god, as both are stated in official documents, and the latter is used in most oaths.
