""It doesn't matter that it wasn't there to begin with?" This means that any sort of historical perspective doesn't matter, nor do the reasons it was changed matter."

What other arguments do you idiots use? Why, "it's historical" and "you have no reason to change it".

These two seem somewhat contradictory, Naruki, I expected better of you... and yes, I -did- refer to history in support, but not quite in that manner. The US was founded with the idea of religious freedom in mind, that idiots since then have taken that to mean Christianity only is irrelevant at the moment as other arguments were presented which could place separate interpretation on the term. I did, however, acquiesce that those who believe in a force or pantheon are excluded, again to a point.

"You whine that we are whining to change it.

You say we just want something to "cry discrimination about" and therefore shut us up (can you say counter-discrimination?).

Whine? When does debate become a whine? Would not your own attempted assault then fall beneath the category of whine or attempt to shut up a dissenting voice?

You object that we are "attacking your religion" by our attempt to enforce NO religious restrictions!

You say we are "insecure in our beliefs" because we object to having your beliefs shoved down our throats by an allegedly religious neutral government.

Nope. I am non-religious, having only the firm belief that any person has the right to their own beliefs if they bring comfort to them and no harm to others. You'll notice that at no point in this thread have I supported any one religion over another, and while I don't agree that this particular wording needs to go I also do not believe that the government should be shoving it down the throats of anyone. The Pledge, in its current and former incarnation, is a means of indoctrinating children into an understanding and support of the basic beliefs that our country was founded on, and should be taken as such... nothing more or less.
