there's literally thousand of possible ways to explain these answers.

for example:

1: Divide by three and add the number of digits of the starting number: 12/3+2=6, 6/3+1=3, 10/3+1=4.33333....

2: Convert the number to binary. Count the binary digits. Answer is number of pairs that can be drawn from the number of digits: 12 = 1100 (6 pairs possible), 6 = 110 (3 pairs possible), 10 = 1010(6 pairs possible).


I'm sure there's many more, but these are the only ones that popped into my mind at short notice.

Next question: what is special about the number 41 and prime numbers (except that it is a prime itself)?
