Visiting her Dad in L.A. by trulla 2002-07-12 00:11:42
Once upon a time there was an old village which was guarded heavily - only persons who would know the right answer to the question of the guard would be allowed to get in.
A thief heard great stories about the richness of this village and thought "Well, if i just hide behind that tree next to the guard and listen to a few of the conversations, maybe I can guess the right answer." and so he did.
The first visitor came along:
Guard: "12."
Visitor: "6."
Guard: "This is correct, you may enter!"
The thief thought "Hm, ok, let's see what comes next!"
The second visitor came along:
Guard: "6."
Visitor: "3."
Guard: "This is correct, you may enter!"
The thief starts smiling to himself: "This is so lame! Ok, my turn".
He went to the Guard, still smiling.
Guard: "10".
Thief: "5".
Guard: "Sorry, wrong answer, please leave!"

What would have been the correct answer (and why)?
