| ...there is no justification for physically assaulting a handcuffed, controlled suspect. Not slamming him into the hood of the car, and especially not throwing a punch at his face.
I was a good handcuffer when I was working in uniform. I had a knack for getting the restraints on an inmate quickly, securely, and then controlling him. I can't think of a single instance where once an officer has a suspect handcuffed and controlled -- and if you haven't been handcuffed by someone who knows what they're doing, you have no idea how at the officer's mercy you really are -- continuing a physical assault on the suspect could be justified. There are NO possible mitigating circumstances here.
I'm not one of the politically correct crowd. I don't know if what happened was racially motivated or not, and quite frankly I don't care. What does concern me is the fact that the officer in question utterly ignored the rules of use of force.
I didn't need to be there to judge the officer as I have. It's black and white to me -- he should have his sorry ass in prison for the crap he pulled. |
