right as opposed to wrong is usually an adjective. However, your definition will do just as well.
"Nature" doesn't mean nature as in "Mother Nature", but as in "essence". Therefore, rights are due to a person because of the way reality is. This doesn't require supernatural powers as far as I can see. Society passes laws and grants privileges, some in accordance with "natural" rights, some not.
There is something called natural law, "that instinctive sense of justice and of right and wrong, which is native in mankind, as distinguished from specifically revealed divine law, and formulated human law." Rights don't need "divine" law, nor need they be wholly derived from human law. |
