      Try using a different remote DNS server by beez 2006-11-19 12:55:59
It sounds as if yours might be slow.
here's a few:
24.25.161.3 (RoadRunner of Maine)
128.113.92.10 (RPI)
128.113.1.3 (RPI)
128.113.1.5 (RPI)

Otherwise, ditch BIND (which I reccomend anyway) and get tinydns - it might help.
