It does depend on the games too. Some games work quite well with Windoze 2000, and also Linux.

WCIII and BGII I know have been confirmed to work with WineX, where Neverwinternights has a native Linux port. If your games are going to be based a lot in OGL, Windoze 2000 if you want everything native. If you don't mind a little "alternative" API for Windoze along with the native APIs, Linux with WineX installed has the ability to at least match up imho to Windoze 2000.

*Figures a lot of people will be recommending XP*
