(Quasi)Philosophical Question of the Day by nimdokk 2002-07-09 11:12:40
Given the recent business scandals in the US (Enron, Worldcom and others) President Bush wants (if I heard correctly - didn't listen to his most recent speech) to make CEO's more accountable for the books. I say that accountability is a good idea. However, there is an aspect that also concerns me: Government legislation of ethical behaviour. Should the government impose (via legislation) its own brand of ethics on its citizens? If so, who who will "watch the watchers" as it were? The question (basically) is: Should the government (any government -- not just the US Gov.) legislate ethics?
