Most people absolutely _refuse_ to examine their misconceptions regarding the real meaning of a "right"! It's mind boggling that no matter how basic you make the explanation, they don't get it.
Any "right" comes from some entity with authority over you, such as a State. They give you that right explicitly, and promise to uphold it. Should it be abridged somehow - as in someone killing you - they will punish the offender. They cannot undo the abridgment in most cases, but they can promise to punish the guilty and/or make some form of restitution available.
The rights that most people talk about are the ones allegedly given by a power higher than any manmade government - which is why they are so laughable. If God really gave you the right to live, He could perfectly enforce that right - much more so than any human government - and you would never die.
It's so simple, I cannot understand why they don't get it! |
